Re: Tougher consumer protection bill lauded (CBC)
Consumer Life, Thursday 10th June 2010, 3.41 pm et.

How can you take seriously any bill presented by a minister who pushed very hard for "consumers" to take an H1N1 vaccine last year that was completely untested, and is still having side effects showing up every day?

One of the problems in just reporting what you are told to report instead of doing due diligence and investigation is that you make a mockery of the news you are trying to impart.

"Consumer and industry groups are applauding a new federal bill aimed at protecting Canadian consumers."

Well firstly, this is not a new Bill, it is regurgitation of a bill already rejected by the Senate, that was Bill C-6 which as you said later died due to Harper's panic about defending his position on a contempt of parliament situation. Consumer and industry groups are basically off shoots of big business which is absolutely unaffected by this Bill. It is my view that the old Hazardous Goods Act properly applied is more effective and less dangerous to Canada's sovereignty and the rights and freedoms of the Canadian People than this rehash.

"Canada needs the tools to be able to rapidly respond to dangerous consumer products in the marketplace and this legislation will allow that to happen," said Shannon Coombs of the Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association.

Hello Shannon, where were you when those dangerous untested vaccinations were being pushed on Canadians last year?

"Along with allowing mandatory recalls, the legislation would prohibit the manufacture, importation or marketing of any product deemed unsafe to human health."

Have you checked the schedules 1 and 2 to see what they consider dangerous and what is not? For instance guns, explosives, ammunition, crossbows are "safe", whilst long tipped lawn darts and wheeled baby walkers are not. Yet again what about the H1N1 vaccine?

"It would also be an offence to package or label consumer goods with false or misleading safety claims."

I have only used one example (H1N1 vaccine) where I can easily see that the people of Canada were misled by those who are trying to say "Trust us to protect you!" What exactly did it say on the packaging of the H1N1 vaccinations? I do not know as I would not allow anything like that even to come close to my body. But millions did and my understand is that GlaxoSmithCline did issue warnings that Health Canada and the Minister of Health ignored; so please tell me again how do we trust these people?

Following on from that is how do we trust you to report what is actual fact and not the gospel according to the Alliance/Reform government of Canada and their fervent supporters in the business world?

Come on CBC, you can do better than this.
